Habitat for Horses Equine Adoptions & Education

Habitat for Horses, Inc.    P.O. Box 213        Hitchcock, TX 77563

If your child is talking you into buying a horse, if you never had a horse and are thinking of getting one, if your knowledge of horses is very limited, this is the place for you. It's hard to imagine the amount of time, work and money you have to put in on maintaining a horse. There's a lot more to it than putting a horse in the backyard and throwing out a bucket of oats once a day. That's how horses get sick, and how "dream horses" end up dying. So learn more on how to see if a horse is for you.

Every Saturday, when the weather's okay, we hold classes on nutrition, hoof care, dental care, safety, cleaning stalls, grooming, the whole works. A full course is four Saturdays with a certificate at the end, if you graduate. For more details, please visit Basic Horsemanship Class.  Website is http://habitatforhorses.org

Ban Dog Chaining in Texas

Melendrez Community Center    5909 West Commerce        San Antonio, TX

The city of San Antonio could crack down on pet owners who choose to chain up their dogs. Under current law, anyone can chain their dog, but they have to follow certain guidelines. However, a law eliminating chains all together could be on the way.
